Deirdre was born on Long Island, NY. She discovered her love of photography in high school when a friend gave her her first camera. What began as a passionate hobby was further developed through elective photography classes while attending Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC for Advertising. Upon completing her Associates Degree at FIT she began a 4 year study of Fine Art Photography at School of Visual Arts. During her years at SVA she lived in the East Village in NYC and photographed the creative and colorful people who inspired and surrounded her. She found that many artists, actors, musicians and parents of children she knew wanted photographs taken as much as she needed subjects for her photographic portfolio. Thus began many collaborations which were indispensable to the development of her sense of portraiture. After graduating SVA she travelled to Europe, and then finally landed in Hawaii for several years. Despite her love of the ocean and the immense beauty of the Hawaiian Islands, her thirst for the diversity of art and music that surrounded her in the East Village drew her back to NYC where she spent years documenting many of the underground and mildly mainstream musicians and performance artists of the last decade. Her work photographing children has been ongoing. Deirdre aims for her for her photographs to reflect the subject’s natural essence and greatly enjoys working with people. She is adept at studio style lighting when necessary, but is inspired by natural light and driven to capture it.
